The Poultry Research Foundation of the University of Sydney has always valued its interaction with the poultry industry since its inception in 1958. APSS
It held workshops, seminars and an annual symposium aiming to update the industry on the happenings around the world in poultry science as well as the foundation’s own research outcomes.
In 1989, under the leadership of PRF director Dr Derrick Balnave, the foundation’s symposium became the Australian Poultry Science Symposium as a joint conference with the Australian branch of the World’s Poultry Science Association.
The annual conference of APSS has been continuously held in Sydney each year in February, organised by dedicated PRF staff of the University of Sydney and with editorial assistance by the president of WPSA Australian branch.
APSS 2024 will be the twentieth consecutive symposium for Jo-Ann Geist, who has indeed become synonymous with the conference itself.
Thank you Jo!
Over the years, APSS has become a ‘must-attend’ conference for poultry researchers and industry experts across the globe because it focuses on the latest science relevant to the sector and attracts top experts to deliver outstanding talks.
Furthermore, since the conference attracts about 250-300 delegates, it is not too large that you lose yourself and is not so small that you are mixing only with your familiar crowd.
As such, APSS offers the perfect balance – you will be able to attend most if not all sessions and immerse yourself in the science over the 2.5 days of the conference because it is run without concurrent sessions, and you will have ample opportunity to mingle with researchers, industry colleagues, students and poultry producers in a relaxed atmosphere.
Held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sydney’s Hyde Park between February 19-21, APSS 2024 will be our thirty-fifth symposium.
The central theme of the conference this year is ‘Frontier Science – Integrating Nutrition, Gut Health and Welfare’, which will cover an exciting array of topics including but not limited to breeder nutrition and chick quality; genetics, productivity and welfare; and nutrition, microbiome and gut health.
The conference program will officially commence at 1pm on Monday February 19, concluding at 4.30pm on Wednesday 21 and, as always, delegates are provided ample opportunity across the event for social activities during what will be the peak of Australia’s vibrant summer in one of the world’s most beautiful cities… Sydney.
Of particular mention is the symposium dinner, which will be held on Tuesday 20 February in Darling Harbour, a breathtaking feature of Sydney.
Numbers for this event are strictly limited, and we do sell out every year, so don’t delay or you may miss out.
Visit the conference website at www.apss2024.com.au and browse through the program, look at the venue and register for the conference.
We are looking forward to seeing you at APSS 2024!
