The most common infections in poultry species can usually be mitigated through the implementation of strict biosecurity programmes and good hygiene practices. However, Salmonella, particularly S. enteritidis (SE), remains a serious problem in poultry production. Therefore, nding a feed additive e ective against Salmonella is of fundamental importance in supporting ock health and performance to boost producer pro tability.
When populations of potentially pathogenic bacteria, such as Salmonella, within the GIT of the bird increases, this can result in damage to gut structures causing a reduced villi length. This lowers the surface area available for nutrient absorption and as a result, Salmonella infection is associated with reduced performance.
